This ten-day program explores how Japan’s architectural traditions continue to shape its modern and contemporary design culture. Traveling from rural villages with gassho-zukuri houses—whose communal and climate-responsive structures embody a sustainable way of living—to towns and cities where machiya townhouses and kura storehouses reveal layers of history, participants will experience how architecture reflects its place and time. The journey also includes visits to important modernist works and radical contemporary buildings, tracing an evolving dialogue between heritage, experimentation, and the changing landscape of Japan.
I am currently developing the itinerary. I will share it in the newsletter.
