Ceramics and the ROKKOYO

The “Rokkoyo,” or Six Ancient Kilns—Seto, Tokoname, Echizen, Shigaraki, Tamba, and Bizen—represent the origins of Japanese pottery. Each town has cultivated its own character through local clay, firing methods, and community traditions that trace back to the medieval period. During this week-long journey, we’ll visit several of these sites and meet potters. The program includes a hands-on workshop focused on modern ceramic making, offering participants a chance to engage directly with Japan’s evolving ceramic culture.

I am currently developing the itinerary. I will share it in the newsletter.
